The Melanson family lives in a minority situation in the metropolis of Halifax, Nova Scotia, a province where French is fragile ― with only 4% of the population identifying as Francophone. For this exogamous Acadian couple, Fabien and Christine, the risk of losing their French is very real, since their two sons communicate mainly in English. An important step will motivate these ambitious parents to promote the learning of French: the eldest begins kindergarten in French and they want to do everything possible to support their academic success by promoting their cultural identity and Acadian roots. EN FRANÇAIS S.V.P. offers an intimate look at the life of an Acadian family struggling to keep its language alive. This documentary shows students the importance of transmitting a sense of belonging and valuing French within each family. Students will be asked to reflect on the place of French in their lives and their cultural pride.
