“40 years ago, on September 3, 1979, an illegal French secondary school was opened in improvised premises in Penetanguishene. It was a rebellion orchestrated by Franco-Ontarians exhausted of feeling like foreigners in their own so-called bilingual school, École secondaire Penetanguishene Secondary School. On September 3, 1979, therefore, the secondary school of La Huronie was inaugurated. This school of resistance will welcome 54 students from the 9th to the 13th year. Then began a long fight that would last ten years. It will take manifestations, political maneuvering and even a trial to succeed ... and a real French secondary school in Penetanguishene.
