Canada's large land mass and harsh climate make it an energy-intensive nation. From wood to coal, from hydroelectric power plants to CANDU nuclear reactors, Canada's history, geography and economy have been profoundly shaped by the development and use of various types of energy resources. The program provides an overview of Canada's energy production and transmission infrastructure and examines the impact of our energy consumption on geography and the environment. From a sustainable development perspective, it presents what exists in terms of alternatives to traditional energies.
