Mini TFO - Les danses autochtones
This 4-part series features different Native dances: the Feather Dance, the Shawl Dance, the Hoop Dance and the Bell Dress Dance.
The episodes provide original opportunities for young students to communicate. After each viewing, they can talk about what they saw, what they liked, what emotions the music brought out in them, what they would like to learn more about, etc. The dances can also be used as a set-up for social studies lessons related to the studies of Indigenous peoples. They can also be used as concrete examples in art classes to show students how a dance can express emotions, represent objects, thoughts or describe experiences.
“Indigenous Dances” offers students the opportunity to transfer the knowledges they have acquired by using them in different contexts, and to formulate them in different ways (drawings, short stories, comic strips, etc.) Last but not least, the series allows students to discover, recognize, appreciate and respect, at an early age, the culture and traditions of the Indigenous peoples of Canada.
