Motel Monstre

In Bouillon, a team runs a motel built beside a hot spring that has mysterious properties. Disgusting monsters, a moody old man, and Magalie, a clumsy and resourceful 15-year-old, struggle to keep the spring and the motel open; the monsters’ survival may depend on it.

Motel Monstre is a real gem for teaching French in the junior, intermediate and senior cycles. The topics presented in each episode are as varied as original, and can serve as starting points for very interesting conversations and/or debates. Each story presented in the different episodes can also be used to better understand the characteristics of a fiction in high school, a fantasy story in 6th grade or an adventure story in 5th grade. This allows students to fill out narrative outlines for each episode, complete charts introducing the characters, what makes them unique, their physical and psychological descriptions, their favorite sayings (which can be used to discuss figures of speech with students), etc. The actors are young, expressive and above all very engaging, and can inspire students to learn, apply or deepen their knowledge of several theatrical techniques: miming one or more characters, stopping the video and improvising the lines of one or more characters, replaying a scene, etc.

In this series, mutual aid and creativity are emphasized and allow students to learn to solve a series of problems faced by the characters and be inspired by them, opening the doors of young people’s imagination.
