Nos Histoires, notre Hhstoire - Sauver l'usine de la Spruce Falls de Kapuskasing

1991 was not an easy year for the employees of Spruce Falls and for the small community of Kapuskasing, which lives at the expense of this pulp and paper mill. We are in a deep recession and the price of newsprint is plummeting. The factory will close. Almost 1,000 jobs are at stake. The residents of Kapuskasing are furious: they take to the streets and block Highway 11, the Trans-Canada Highway. They will go as far as pitching their tents on the lawn of Queen’s Park in Toronto to alert the media and the government of the day.
