To the east of Algeria lies Kabylia and its small mountain villages. The Kabyles have been here for thousands of years, and are part of an immense people: the Berbers. Who are their ancestors?

The Jewish people have often been condemned to exile. In the 15th century, Jews expelled from Spain headed for North Africa. They were known as Sephardic Jews.

In eastern Algeria, right on the border with Tunisia, there's a mountainous region called the Aurès. This is where the Chaouis come from. Like the Kabyles, they belong to the great Berber people.

Algeria has seen several successive invasions. After the Phoenicians, Romans and Byzantines, the Arabs arrived in 680. Why and where did they come from?
