Samir, Nour and their two children, Zeina and Fady, attempt to cross the Canada-US border in their recently purchased American station wagon, without legal papers.

After a series of difficult apartment visits, the family manages to move into a cooperative apartment.

Now that the family is settled, it's time to enroll the children in school. Back home, there's a surprise guest. It's Aunt Lina. She'll be occupying Fady's room, forcing the two youngsters to share.

While Zeina and her new friends are getting closer during the class swimming trip, things are getting complicated at home. The parents have dared to invite yet another person to stay with them: childhood friend Ziad. Enough is enough!

As the two parents gradually carve out a place for themselves in Canadian working life, Fady decides to play tricks on Ziad, terrorizing him. As for Zeina, her anxieties soon come back to haunt her when she thinks she's safe.

Fady, feeling uprooted and destabilized, has disappeared. The whole family sets out to find him. Zeina feels guilty: what if it's because of their argument that he's gone?

15 years is something to celebrate! The whole family is together to celebrate Zeina's birthday, until news arrives of an explosion in the grandmother's apartment building in Beirut.

After a wonderful birthday party, the family despairs as no one has heard from their grandmother in Beirut. Until one last phone call in the dead of night...
