Arnold's cousin Janet visits Miss Bille-en-tête's class for a trip to the planetarium to see a presentation on the solar system. Arnold suggests a trip to space. The class explores Mercury, Venus, and Mars, while Janet gathers evidence of their journey. In the asteroid belt, as Janet attempts to collect an asteroid as further evidence, they lose Miss Head-Tip and find themselves lost in space. Their space exploration of the solar system allows them to learn about the characteristics of the planets, the Earth and the Sun.
