So far from the mainland, the Madelinots have developed a strong and unique identity, influenced by many different cultures. Originally populated by Acadian deportees, this influence is still omnipresent on the archipelago and can be seen in the music, oral traditions, and local food customs, with the Acadian flag flying everywhere. Thanks to mutual aid and resourcefulness, the Madelinots brave the elements to diversify the food available on the archipelago and increase the food self-sufficiency of residents. Some also have to juggle two or three jobs to keep their heads above water, as seasonal work often does not allow them to make ends meet.
