What fascinates people about the Azores is first and foremost their geographical location. The archipelago of nine volcanic islands and islets rises up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean at a point where three tectonic plates meet. The fourth busiest marina in the world in terms of visitor numbers, it can accommodate up to 300 sailboats per day during the summer. Boaters from all over the world are the latest in a long tradition of hospitality. Explorers, whalers, merchant ships, Dutch tugboats... the inhabitants of Horta have always been accustomed to welcoming boats and their crews.
