Welland experienced phenomenal growth, which resulted in two major waves of skilled labour migration. First came the cotton workers from the textile industry, and then the steelworkers who came to work in the steel mills. Also, at the same time, the expansion of the Welland Canal soon accommodated the expansion of shipping. Thus, Francophones came in large numbers to build a better life. Industry was no longer the economic strength of the area. The francophone school is now the core that unites Franco-Ontarians. Development and globalization are now the perception of the future of this community.
