Cobalt is part of the so-called 'Tri-Towns', a community on the shores of Lake Timiskaming that also includes Haileybury and New Liskeard. In 1910, Cobalt had a population of 30,000 and operated about 100 mining sites. At that time, the town was the industrial and economic heart of the region, the hub of the largest known mining drive in Northern Ontario. Today, Cobalt is almost a ghost town.
