Kirkland Lake

We are at Marcel and Cécile Joliat's house. It is time for Sunday brunch. We attend a choir practice where seniors, including Marcel Joliat, and young people are rehearsing with Dolores Bond for their upcoming Christmas concert. Marcel Joliat is in his woodworking shop, working on wood to, as he says, 'spend the long winter months pleasantly'. We are at Jean Vanier School and follow Jean-Marie Messier through a typical day as a school principal. He has had a career as a teacher and now heads this brand new French high school. Rose Lyne d'Aoust and her husband Jean-Marie Messier are enjoying a beautiful outdoor day to recharge their batteries and talk about their respective jobs. We are on the island where the 'Beaver House' is established, a native settlement, very close to Kirkland Lake, where people have adopted a lifestyle that allows them to keep in touch with certain ancestral traditions. Caroll and Colette Jacques, who are Métis, were invited to the island for a day of festivities on Thanksgiving Day.
